Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda of Baja California highlighted the benefits of the Open High School system offered by the state’s Secretariat of Education as part of efforts to promote more accessible and inclusive education.

The governor explained that this model is a real alternative for those seeking to improve themselves, as it allows students to study and work simultaneously without needing to attend in-person classes or adhere to a fixed schedule.

“We want more people to finish high school without complications. This option is flexible, secure, affordable, and very accessible. The best part is that they can complete it in just six months,” she added.

She explained that the program is designed to progress at the student’s own pace and is open to all ages, making it a powerful tool for those who, for several reasons, have not completed their upper secondary education.

Students must take an exam for each of the 22 subjects in the curriculum. Once they pass, they will receive an official certificate valid in Mexico and abroad, issued by Baja California’s Secretariat of Education.

“Education should adapt to people’s lives. With this alternative, we continue building a state with more opportunities for everyone. Enrollment is open year-round, and students can join at any time without depending on traditional school years,” the governor emphasized.

According to Baja California’s Secretariat of Education, the requirements are: a birth certificate, CURP, secondary school certificate, two passport-sized photos, and a one-time payment for enrollment, ID, and exam application.
