Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda acknowledged the work carried out by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) to guarantee healthcare services for Baja Californians during her participation in IMSS Delegate Desireé Sagarnaga’s fifth work report.
This ceremony was attended by IMSS General Director Zoé Robledo Aburto, whom the state leader recognized for his support—as well as that of Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo—in bringing healthcare services to the people of Baja California.

She highlighted that under IMSS delegate Desireé Sagarnaga’s management in Baja California, multiple positive results to expand access to healthcare services and infrastructure have been achieved. These include the construction of a new hospital in Ensenada with 216 beds, increased equipment in hospitals, and the improvement of medical units.
“For two years, they had been pushing for the construction of the Ensenada hospital with the previous administration, but during this current government, it took only two months to secure the land where the hospital is now being built,” the governor said.

As such, she reiterated the state administration’s commitment to supporting the efforts of IMSS Baja California to reach more people. This includes actions such as the state government’s donation of land for the construction of the San Quintín hospital and another for a Family Medical Unit in Mexicali, which will consist of 20 consultation rooms.
“We overcame together the COVID-19 pandemic that affected us all, when, with their heart above all, the entire healthcare industry and all staff participated in defending lives during that pandemic that took humanity by surprise. But that made us even stronger allies,” the governor recalled.

IMSS General Director Zoé Robledo Aburto congratulated Desireé Sagarnaga Durante for the work she has carried out as the Institute’s delegate in the state, where she has worked together with Governor Marina del Pilar.
It should be noted that in Baja California and San Luis Río Colorado, IMSS’ regional representation provides social security to more than 2.6 million beneficiaries, representing approximately 65% of the region’s total population.
