Governor Marina del Pilar Reports Significant Drop in Crime Rates in Baja California

Based on data from the National Citizen Observatory, Governor Marina del Pilar has highlighted significant crime drops in the state.

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda of Baja California announced a significant decrease in crime rates for November 2024, attributing the progress to strategies aimed at strengthening security and maintaining peace, based on data from the National Citizen Observatory.

According to the Observatory’s data, crime rates dropped by 29.42% compared to November 2023, with an additional reduction of 11.56% from October 2024.

“Achieving this positive impact was made possible through the reinstatement of security councils in collaboration with local mayors and federal authorities. We will continue to strengthen these efforts to ensure peace and tranquility for everyone,” Governor Marina del Pilar stated.

The governor also explained which percentage drop pertained to each crime: there was a decline of 77.24% on extortions, 55.28% on home robberies, 53.95% on pedestrian robberies, and 48.20% on business robberies. These comparisons were made between November 2023 and November 2024.

The governor outlined the percentage drops for specific crimes: a 77.24% decrease in extortion, 55.28% in home burglaries, 53.95% in pedestrian robberies, and 48.20% in business thefts, comparing November 2023 to November 2024.

Other notable decreases include a 47.48% reduction in violent robberies, 22.12% in homicides, 13.49% in car thefts, 11.74% in drug dealing, and 6.23% in domestic violence cases.

 Governor Marina del Pilar emphasized that the data published by the National Citizen Observatory is based on the number of investigation files per 100,000 residents, providing a clear perspective on the state’s security situation.

She also highlighted recent actions such as the establishment of the Regional State Security Council in Tijuana and the Metropolitan Coordination Council, which will oversee public security initiatives in collaboration with Tecate and Playas de Rosarito, aiming for a more efficient approach to crime monitoring. 

Additionally, the governor mentioned the agreement between Baja California’s Secretariat of Citizen Security and the City Hall of Tecate to professionalize the city’s police force.

Governor Marina del Pilar reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to enhancing strategies and actions that foster safe environments for all Baja Californians. She urged residents to report suspicious or criminal activities through the 911 emergency line or the anonymous tip line 089.
