Baja Californian Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda spearheaded the “Encuentro con presidentas y presidentes municipales para la construcción de la paz” (Peacebuilding Meeting with Municipal Presidents), which aims to strengthen coordination among the three levels of government and create safer environments.

Together with Mexico’s Deputy Secretary of Peacebuilding, Social Participation, and Religious Affairs, Rocío Bárcena Molina, the governor explained that the meeting’s goal is to reinforce coordination and shared responsibility to provide timely and efficient attention to the causes disrupting social harmony.

“We reiterate our full commitment in Baja California to join this national project to combat violence by fostering peace which is part of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s strategy,” the governor said.

Deputy Secretary Rocío Bárcena Molina highlighted mayors’ valuable, as they are the ones who directly handle citizens’ needs.

“We need our peace council meetings to become instruments for a republic of rights with justice and peace. There is no peace without justice,” she claimed.

During the dialogue, authorities agreed that security does not depend solely on operations or surveillance but is closely linked to full access to fundamental rights such as education, health, employment, culture, and sports.
