The state governor met with Lieutenant Colonel Julián Leyzaola to strengthen the region's security.

Baja Californian Governor Marina del Pilar held a meeting with former Secretary of Public Security in Tijuana Lieutenant Colonel Julián Leyzaola to discuss strategies to ensure security in the state.

The governor shared an image of herself alongside the security expert on social media where she highlighted their shared goal: strengthening the region’s security and ensuring peace for families.

Among the topics they addressed to combat organized crime were new effective strategies to fight criminals. One of these strategies is to strengthen coordination between agencies.

For the governor’s administration, security and social peace have always been a priority, highlighting in multiple actions and speeches the importance of not yielding to criminals and reminding citizens of their right to live in peace.

Lastly, Governor Marina del Pilar reaffirmed her commitment to legality, the rule of law, and the construction of an environment where justice and harmony prevail.

“We reaffirm our commitment to continue fighting for a society where there is no place for violence,” Governor Marina del Pilar said.

Who is Julián Leyzaola?

Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Julián Leyzaola Pérez is a retired military officer, primarily known for his work in security in Tijuana, Baja California. In the municipality, he served as head of the Secretariat of Public Security.

One of his most notable achievements is reducing the city’s high crime rate by 70%. His strategy involved replacing police command with military-style police command.

He applied the same approach to combat drug trafficking in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua—where crime dropped by nearly 85%—removing the city from its position as the most violent place in the world.
