BRAZIL – Soccer has had a long history of avoiding technology into the game. But the wait is now over has goal line technology will make its long awaited World Cup debut in this 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

GoalControl, the official provider of the system, re-tested the technology at Rio's Maracana stadium – the venue of the World Cup final – in April ahead of the tournament.

"It is 100 percent accurate. The system will work," Dirk Broichhausen, managing director of GoalControl, said at a presentation at the Maracana.

GoalControl was tested during last year's Confederations Cup which serves as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup. The technology was able to register every goal scored during that tournament.
