Tijuana.- A female municipal police officer was shot to death Sunday afternoon in a troubled eastside neighborhood, the department of Public Safety reported.
She was identified as Emma Guadalupe Tafolla Carrillo, assigned to the Sánchez Taboada district.
Her body was found inside a Dodge Ram 2000 pickup that bore 12 gunshots.
According to initial reports, gunmen in a car fired against the officer with R-15 and A47 rifles in Colonia 3 de Octubre, one of the most crime-ridden in the city.
Police mounted an operation through the area and detained a man, identified as Jorge Calvillo Ordoñez, 33, who they said may have been involved in the attack.
This is the first killing during the tenure of Mayor Carlos Bustamante, who began his term on Nov. 30. A total of 43 officers were killed during the three-year administration of the previous mayor, Jorge Ramos.
