MEXICO.- Yesterday, an earthquake with a 5.3 magnitude registered on the Richter scale, was felt on the south of the peninsula of Baja California.

There were no reports of any injuries or material damages, informed the National Weather Service.

The agency indicated that the earthquake occurred around 15:02 hours local time (21.02GMT), and the epicenter of the quake was located at 135 kilometers northeast of San Jose del Cabo.

A spokesperson of civil protection from San Jose del Cabo, also informed that the earthquake was detected about 1 kilometer deep from the areas surface.

"It was felt lightly in neighboring towns, and until now we have not had any reports of damages or victims", said Wenceslao Petit who is the director of civil protection of Cabo.

He also mentioned that in Baja California Sur, there have been some telluric movements in the past few weeks, which the last strongest one was recorded on the Richter scale with a magnitude of 6.2 on September 25th.

"We are carefully monitoring, but we do not expect to have a tsunami", added Petit.
