City Hall of Tijuana Implements Initiatives to Strengthen Community

The Mayor of Tijuana revealed a series of strategies that are being carried out to boost the city's development.

At his weekly press conference, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, Mayor of the City of Tijuana, announced a series of actions that his administration will carry out with the aim of boosting Tijuana’s development and generating well-being for everyone. Among them, there are a bonus for Municipal Police officers, the strengthening of infrastructure through road enhancements, the upcoming Macro Well-Being Campaign, training of traffic assistants by the Secretariat of Mobility, and procedures to establish Delegation Subcommittees.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana reaffirmed the commitment of secretariats and municipal agencies to carry out strategies, actions, and programs that result in better life conditions for people and community improvement.

14,400-Peso Bonus for Tijuana Police Officers

The Mayor confirmed that a 14,400-peso bonus will be given to municipal police officers as a thank you for their work, dedication, and determination to safeguard all Tijuana natives.

He also recalled that during International Police Day, they delivered 70 recognitions with 25,000-peso bonuses. One of Tijuana’s 25th City Hall’s planned initiatives, he emphasized, is a family support framework for active police officers and those who died in the line of duty with the aim of guaranteeing education and scholarships.

Secretary of Security and Municipal Citizen Protection (SSPCM) Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales spoke up next and highlighted the decline of 22.7% in the homicide rate between September and December 2024 in Baja California, as a result of an interinstitutional coordination strategy.

The Secretary of Territory, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA), Virginia Vargas González, revealed that through the actions carried out through the “Mantenimiento de Vialidades” Program, the road at Fraccionamiento Villa del Real III, in the La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez Delegation, was rebuilt with hydraulic concrete; it is currently 65% done. Meanwhile, the La Presa Este area, where geometrical adaptation of the road with hydraulic concrete is being applied, is 50% done.

Another activity developed by the Secretariat, he said, was public lighting restoration: 565 lighting posts have been repaired in several areas.

First Macro Well-Being Campaign at Unidad Deportiva Mariano Matamoros

Secretary of Municipal Well-Being Erik Morales Elvira revealed that on Saturday, January 11, the first Macro Well-Being Campaign will be taking place at Unidad Deportiva Mariano Matamoros in the Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez Delegation, where several municipal agencies will also be providing their services.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Mobility Apolinar Fernández Álvarez highlighted that the supervision operation at the San Ysidro port of entry is permanent and is being carried out in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and the Municipal Traffic Agency. It will be active 24 hours with the aim of maintaining road order and liberating traffic in the area.

He explained that, as instructed by the Mayor, traffic assistants are being trained to become Mobility and Security Agents as well as first responders. Plus, they will have the necessary legal and operational tools to help citizens during traffic, liberate areas showing a high amount of traffic, and provide assistance during road accidents.

Citizens and Government Working Together

Secretary of the Municipal Government Arnulfo Guerrero León pointed out that through the establishment of Delegation Subcommittees of Citizen Participation, they are aiming to increase community promotion efforts so that people know the community leaders who will represent them at the Social Development Municipal Council. Their aim is to prioritize the needs of their communities through democratic participation.

The head of IMPAC, Yessica Aguilar Estrada, also explained the establishment process of the Delegation Subcommittees of Citizen Participation in which they will decide which projects to build with Ramo 33 resources.

Lastly, the Director of Civil Protection of Tijuana, José Luis Jiménez González, revealed that due to the Santa Ana winds condition registered in the last few hours, the Municipal Directorate of Firefighters of Tijuana has dealt with 60 different situations. 26 of these cases were due to house and grassland fires, plus reports of cables on the ground and trees about to fall.
