Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism signed a letter of intent with Queer Destinations to implement the “Hospitality Meets Diversity” certification program. This is a project that involves tourism service providers and state public workers and is part of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2025 celebrations.
This initiative aims to train hotels, restaurants, and other tourism industry-related businesses in inclusivity, diversity, and specialized LGBTQ+ assistance with the goal of solidifying Baja California as a world-class queer-friendly destination.

Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez underscored that this program represents crucial progress in the state’s strategy to boost the tourism industry and ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all: “Baja California is a vibrant and diverse destination that welcomes travelers from all over the world. Through this alliance, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusive tourism, guaranteeing safe experiences for the LGBTQ+ community.”
This certificate will also directly benefit the local LGBTQ+ community by promoting a safer, more respectful, and more inclusive environment in the tourism industry. Training will foster awareness among businesspeople, service providers, and public workers, creating spaces with no discrimination.

Regarding this, Oriol Pàmies, founder of Queer Destinations, said: “We are proud and thrilled to have Baja California join this important global movement. Regarding the social context in which we live, it is very important that we, as destinations, make our commitment real and visible to deal with all kinds of travelers without discriminating based on sexual orientation or gender identity.”
This program will be implemented in several different phases, beginning with training sessions for the tourism industry and certifying establishments committed to diversity. As such, Baja California reaffirms its leadership as a destination that celebrates inclusivity and diversity, solidifying its national and global standing.
