The 49th edition of the Tianguis Turístico kicked off in Baja California, with Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda and Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, presiding over the inauguration. The launch featured a series of conferences and seminars on gastronomy, sustainable tourism, and cultural heritage, along with events for public enjoyment.

Governor Marina del Pilar thanked the federal government, the states across the country, and the participating businesses, exhibitors, and international delegations. She emphasized that tourism is a crucial economic engine, providing livelihoods for thousands and boosting many industries.

“Our country continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s most popular destinations. Mexico is in the spotlight. This is the Mexico of collective prosperity, with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo leading the way. Tourism tears down barriers, opens borders, and builds trust and friendship,” the governor said.

She also highlighted Baja California’s wealth in nature and heritage, with two seas, diverse ecosystems, and a cultural offering that ranges from indigenous traditions to contemporary art and music.

“We’ve expanded our strengths. We lead in health and wellness tourism and we’re making huge strides in business tourism, ecotourism, and sustainable community-based travel. Behind all of it is the dedication and creativity of thousands of people who keep this noble industry moving,” she added.

Tourism Secretary Rodríguez Zamora reinforced the sector’s role as one of Mexico’s main economic pillars, generating the third highest amount of foreign revenue for the country.

“With this edition, and looking ahead to the arrival of ITB Américas 2026, the Tianguis Turístico is set to become even more international. This gives all 32 states and our destinations a greater platform to showcase themselves. Tourism knows no boundaries—it’s about opening windows of collaboration and prosperity. And what better message to send than this: Mexico is in fashion, and our tourism is flourishing,” she noted.

She also announced that beginning April 29, more than 30 public events will take place. On May 1, visitors will be able to explore the pavilions of all 32 states and over 200 featured destinations.
