With a sustainable development and social well-being vision, the Political Coordination Board of the Baja Californian Congress has declared 2025 “The Year of Sustainable Tourism as a Driving Force for Social Well-Being and Progress.” This initiative aims to establish the state as a world-class destination, highlighting its cultural and natural wealth and its commitment to sustainability.

This inscription will be included in official paperwork and documentation issued by the State Branches, Constitutionally Autonomous Agencies, and the state’s City Halls throughout this year.

This declaration ratifies the work carried out by the Secretariat of Tourism of Baja California led by Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, which has overseen key initiatives to strengthen the state’s positioning as a world-class tourism benchmark.

These historic achievements involve the inclusion of the state’s gastronomy in the first edition of the 2024 Michelin Guide Mexico and becoming the venue of internationally renowned events such as the Caribbean Series and Tianguis Turístico 2025.

The 2025 Caribbean Series, which will take place in Mexicali from January 31 to February 7, will gather Latin America’s best baseball teams, attracting thousands of fans and international visitors. Meanwhile, Tianguis Turístico 2025, set to take place at the Metropolitan Convention Center – Baja California Center, is Latin America’s most important tourism promotion event and will place Baja California before international markets.

Aguíñiga Rodríguez highlighted that declaring 2025 the Year of Tourism reinforces the commitment of the state government, led by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, to make Baja California a sustainable, inclusive, and competitive tourist destination. He added that this approach will attract more visitors and guarantee that the benefits of tourism contribute to social well-being and preserve the state’s natural and cultural resources.

Therefore, he highlighted that sustainable tourism is a strategic pillar for Baja California. He emphasized that the region fosters the participation of native communities, promoting their integration for the industry’s development. Plus, he recalled that Baja California stands out due to its rich gastronomic, cultural, and natural offerings, and thanks to social tourism programs such as “Corazones Viajeros”, the state’s heritage sites can be readily enjoyed.

With this declaration, the State Congress and the Secretariat of Tourism reaffirm their commitment to work together with the private sector, the municipalities, and local communities to make 2025 an iconic year for Baja California’s tourism and economic development.
