Baja California will become the first state in Mexico to integrate artificial intelligence into classrooms, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership between the state government and Google for Education. Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda announced the initiative, which aims to provide students and teachers with cutting-edge learning tools.

Through an investment of over 15 million pesos, the program will ensure that advanced technologies reach classrooms across the state, with special attention to low-income communities where digital resources are needed to level the playing field.

“Access to technology shouldn’t be a privilege dictated by birthplace or financial background,” the governor stressed, affirming her commitment to a human-centered education policy.

Last Wednesday, Ávila Olmeda held a virtual meeting with students from the Secundaria General #14 in Mexicali, who are already benefiting from STEM-focused classrooms. She also connected with children learning in mobile classrooms that provide free connectivity for students in remote areas.

This live demonstration showcased how the state’s Department of Education, with support from the Baja California’s Science and Technological Innovation Council, is bringing technology to rural communities.

“Investing in education means investing in young people’s dreams and potential. It’s about closing gaps, creating opportunities, and giving students the tools they need for the future,” Ávila Olmeda said.

Among the technologies that will be introduced in Baja California’s smart classrooms are interactive whiteboards and high-speed internet access. These tools, along with brand-new Chromebooks, will ensure that students and teachers alike can make the most of their environment.

AI-powered learning platforms will further enhance lessons by offering personalized support, adapting to different learning methods, and helping students navigate an ever-evolving digital landscape.

State Secretary of Education Luis Gallego announced that approximately 162,000 secondary school students will benefit from Google for Education Plus licenses. The program will also benefit around 13,000 teachers across 480 schools with access to the platform, which will make lessons more engaging, interactive, and tailored to children’s needs.

“This program doesn’t replace teachers; it empowers them with innovative resources and teaching strategies to enrich learning and better prepare students for higher education,” Gallego emphasized.
