Frost forecast in Baja California! Temperatures could drop to 23°F

The State Civil Protection Agency issued recommendations and a warning due to upcoming temperature drops

The National Weather Service (SMN) has issued a warning as temperatures are set to plunge, along with frost, to a range of -5 to 0°C (23°F-32°F) in Baja California's mountainous areas, from the early morning of Friday, November to Monday, December 2.

The State Civil Protection Agency of Baja California (CEPC) has revealed that these conditions are being caused by cold front no. 11 dragging a polar air mass with it.

The head of CEPC, Salvador Cervantes Hernández, added that sustained winds of 20-30 km/hour with gusts of up to 60 km/hour are expected, especially in the Gulf of California and other regions in Baja California.

These weather conditions could affect communities located in the state's highest areas, where cold will be more intense, which is why CEPC called on people to protect themselves to prevent risks associated with low temperatures.

Some of their recommendations include: to properly warm yourself with layers of clothing, make sure that children, seniors, and people with breathing problems are especially protected, and avoid sudden temperature changes.

People using heaters should be careful of carbon monoxide poisoning by ensuring there’s proper ventilation and avoiding portable ovens or bonfires inside homes. It is crucial to keep doors and windows closed to conserve heat and to be especially careful when using heating equipment.

Through these conditions, remember to protect pets, keep them in safe spaces, and move or cover plants if they could be affected by frost. To prevent seasonal diseases, people are encouraged to take vitamins A and C, keep themselves hydrated, and watch out for any flu or breathing symptoms.

Cervantes Hernández stressed the importance of being informed through official statements and knowing that people can report any emergency at 911. He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to work in coordination with federal and municipal authorities, making sure that prompt assistance is given to vulnerable communities.

The State Civil Protection Agency will continue to keep monitoring these weather conditions to keep everyone up to date as it happens. People are invited to keep an eye on official channels and follow recommendations to prevent accidents.
