Tijuana’s 2025 Semiconductor Forum: Positioning Baja California as a Tech Industry Hub

The 2025 Semiconductor Forum will include discussions of the semiconductor design center strategy, a significant national initiative announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The 2025 Semiconductor Forum is set to take place from February 17 to February 19 as part of an initiative coordinated by the Semiconductor Alliance, in collaboration with the government of Baja California, the Federal Government, and global partners.

The city of Tijuana will host this significant national event, considered the most important of its kind in Latin America. This forum aims to strengthen the development of talent and workforce for Mexico’s semiconductor industry.

This event’s 2nd edition will feature a three-day program that will bring together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and government officials as it aims to boost and strengthen the technology industry and discuss strategies to position Mexico in the global semiconductor industry while attracting important investors.

This forum will allow participants to explore and discuss the perspectives, opportunities, and challenges shaping the future of the technology industry in the country. Scheduled activities include conferences on the semiconductor design center, a major national initiative recently announced by the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

2025 Semiconductor Forum Agenda

The program includes keynote presentations by national and international professionals, who will share their expertise on critical topics such as the impact of nearshoring in Mexico and the implications of the CHIPS Act in North America.

During the event, a graduation ceremony for the Baja California Semiconductor Training Program, led by Arizona State University and the Iberoamerican Technology Foundation, will take place. This event will be held at the Reading Room of the UABC Otay Community Center, with a total of 110 teachers and researchers from 18 public and private educational institutions in the state who successfully completed the program.

The inauguration of the 2025 Semiconductor Forum will take place on February 18 in the “Rodrigo Valle Hernández” gymnasium-auditorium at CETYS University, Tijuana Campus. It will be led by Mario Delgado, Mexico’s Secretary of Public Education; Baja Californian Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda; Kurt Honold Morales, Baja California’s Secretary of Economy and Innovation; Luis Gallego, Baja California’s Secretary of Education, among others.

The 2025 Semiconductor Forum will also showcase several success stories from global companies, providing a unique perspective on business experience and the contribution of Mexican talent.

Additionally, strategic discussion panels are planned. Here, experts will explore topics ranging from facilitating the relocation of the semiconductor industry to Mexico to the development of specialized talent and attracting investments.

Finally, on February 19, participants will have the opportunity to visit leading semiconductor companies Qualcomm and Infineon, as well as prominent academic institutions UABC and CETYS, recognized for their programs and collaborations with the industry.

Baja California’s Technological Development Initiative

According to Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico exports approximately $4.9 billion in semiconductors annually. However, with this new strategy, these figures are expected to increase significantly and attract substantial investments.

Regarding Baja California, the state has the infrastructure in place to establish manufacturing clusters for electronic equipment, similar to those of the automotive and aerospace industries.

With initiatives like the 2025 Semiconductor Forum, Baja California aims to establish its position as a leading entity in the industry, with highly specialized personnel to continue developing talent within its educational institutions.
