Results from the 2023-2024 Economic Impact Study of Ensenada’s Cruise Industry have been shared by the Ensenada Cruise Committee, presided over by the Secretariat of Tourism of Baja California.
This report reaffirms Ensenada’s significance as the leading port destination in the Mexican Pacific. It is also Mexico’s third most important port for passenger arrivals.

Significant Results:
- Total Number of Arrivals (Jan-Dec 2024): 272 cruises
- Total Number of Passengers: 949,321 people; 73% of whom disembarked to enjoy this destination.
- Main international market: 92% from the United States, followed by Canada (4%), and the United Kingdom (2%).
- Generated economic revenue: $74.86 million USD, with average expenses of $63.68 USD per passenger and $47.84 USD per crewmember.
The Ensenada Visitor Experience:
- First time at this destination: 56%
- Purchased something in Ensenada: 73%
- Average length of stay: 5 hours
- General satisfaction: Significant improvement compared to 2018, with a rating of 7.6 (previously 7.1)
- Probability of coming back: Increase from 4.4 to 5.6 points
Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, highlighted: “Ensenada’s cruise industry boosts the local economy and reinforces Baja California’s position as an attractive destination for international tourism. We will continue to strengthen our tourism offerings and improve our visitors’ experiences.”
The study also identified opportunity areas such as diversifying the activities offered, improving the variety of attractions, and optimizing local transportation services. In 2025, the Ensenada Cruise Committee will prioritize these areas and carry out strategic actions to boost the local tourism value chain.
The analysis was done between May 2023 and April 2024, with the Ensenada Cruise Terminal (ECV), the Port Administration (ASIPONA), and the Ensenada City Hall. This cross-sectional project allowed for essential information for the industry to be updated compared to the last study made in 2018.
