Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda emphasized that Baja California has become a national leader in the production of key agricultural crops, thanks to public policies focused on improving conditions in rural areas and ensuring the well-being of farmers.
The governor highlighted that, over the past three years, the state has become the national leader in chive production and currently ranks second in the production of cilantro, dates, and raspberries, while holding third place in the production of strawberries, grapes, cotton, and blackberries
Baja California has also become a significant player in cranberry and asparagus production, as it ranks in 4th place. It is also in 5th place regarding wheat and alfalfa production, she added.
“Farmers work very hard every day, and thanks to their efforts, we have a wide variety of products. Our job as a government is to support them with financing and training programs and improve infrastructure to guarantee that they have the necessary tools to ensure they produce high-quality products,” Governor Marina del Pilar said.
The enhancement of production capabilities–through training, workshops, and conferences–has been crucial in helping farmers make progress and face the challenges of a globalized market, she said.
The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADERBC), Juan Meléndrez Espinoza, highlighted that due to the restoration and modernization of the Watering District, agricultural wells, and the leveling of plots, water usage has been optimized, ensuring a more efficient and sustainable production.
Furthermore, Meléndrez Espinoza stated that due to these efforts, more trade opportunities for Baja Californian products nationally and internationally have opened up, highlighting the level of quality produced in the state.
