MD&M West first keynote speech "Computers we can wear" by Babak Parviz, Amazon vice chairman and inventor of Google Glass and Google Contact Lens technology presented an analytic point of view regarding actual topics in wearable tech and its impact in medical devices industry and health care. According to Parviz wearable tech will be taking a leading role an industry that continues to grow.
Andy Christensen, vice chairman of 3D Systems Corporation, a well known company in specialized surgery and medical device fields, presented a second conference. Christensen is founder and executive director of "Medical Modeling" a pioneer company in 3D printing surgery and medical solutions for the patient. In the conference he spoke about new tech for 3D printing and explained how many ideas for patient care depend on an innovative proposal of mixing 3D printing and specialized surgery.
On the third day of the event Mr. Jay Radcliffe, researcher and consultant in chief of security for Rapid 7 presented the conference "The Hackers Guide to the Galaxy". The cyber security expert, famous for having hacked his own insulin pump in 2011, led to discussion the question of whether safety in medical devices has really advanced in the last four years.
The event will also award various companies, products and people leading the field of design, engineering and manufacturing in North America.
These awards included: Golden Mousetrap Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award, Rising Star Engineer and Gadget Freak of the Year.
