Midweek goal fest for Tijuana Xolos

Paul Arriola also on the score sheet for Xolos

TIJUANA - Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles finished their participation in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champion's League (CCL) with a big 5-0 win over Club Deportivo Victoria in the Estadio Caliente. U.S. Internationals Paul Arriola and Herculez Gomez who was making his official Xolos debut produced three of the five goals of the night.

Home side got off to a flying start with Paul Arriola who slammed a shot into the post with only 30 seconds on the clock. Xolos pressured and dominated the ball possession throughout the 90 minutes. That pressured paid off in the 16th minute when Diego Olsina finished off a good combination play up the middle in which he, Critian Pellerano and Emmanuel Cerda who gave the assist participated.

In the 32nd minute Paul Arriola doubled the lead with another deep through ball in the middle of the field. The young America did not get nervous in front of goal and put the ball past the goalkeeper. Three minutes later Emmanuel Cerda chested down an Aldo Polo cross and put the ball into the net for the 3-0 that the Xolos took to halftime.

For the second half, U.S. International Herculez Gomez made his official Xolos debut, and would make it a sweet debut by scoring a 'hat-trick' (60th, 68th, and 85th minute). Gomez looked fit and as clinical as always; but the Tijuana management still don't want to push him too much and only gave him 45 minutes.

Club Tijuana will now continue their marathon of games on Sunday when they visit Puebla, followed by a week 2 make-up game against Club America on Tuesday, and back at home on Friday night. They will now put the CCL in the back of their minds since the knockout stages won't start back up until January of 2014.
