5 Things You Didn't Know About San Quintin in Baja California

South of Ensenada lies a region undisturbed by typical tourism

SAN QUINTÍN.-Tourist from outside Baja California rarely have reason to go further south than Rosarito and Ensenada, and even more rarely a reason to explore the lands between Cabo in the southern part of the peninsula and the northern part right next to the border.

Or so they think there aren't any reasons, but the truth is, some of the best, most magical and even more famous parts of a tour in Baja lie in those lands between Ensenada and the desserts closer to Baja California South, best represented by the coast of San Quintín.

San Quintín? Yes, and here are 5 things you should know about it:

1.- Unique but beautiful Baja coast

Not just the typical sandy places to bathe in the sun, but mostly pristine natural spots where sea lions, birds and wildlife aren't yet afraid of humans, but coexist peacefully still with the environment. Although, you don't have to worry that by coming here, you will be cut off from civilization. Fear not! there are great hotels, restaurants, marinas, camp grounds and tourist help that will help alleviate any fear about your safety and comforts as a tourist.

2.- La Lobera

This eco-adventure-tourism jewel is a remarkable spot in the cliffside of San Quintin, where a natural "hole" has become a top destination for divers and the more adventurist that wish to visit friendly sea lions that hang out there during low tide (which is why it's called "la lobera", or the "sea lion den" after what they're called in Spanish)

3.- Restaurants

Misiones de la California, Molino Viejo, Callejitas, La Barca, and much, much more, there's a lot to choose from in San Quintín if you are looking for authentic and original Baja cuisine.

4.- Incredible places to stay

Not that we're lazy or anything, but a lot of those said restaurants are also good places to spend the night, like the Molino Viejo Motel, Rancho Meling a bit further east, Rancho La Villa, and much, much more. During the winter, you can enjoy being next to the beach, but only minutes away from the snow capped mountains of the Sierra San Pedro Martir to the east.

5.- Some of the best Eco-Tourism in Mexico

Cycling, Mountain Bikes, Kayaking, Sailing, Sport Fishing, surfing, walks, hiking, diving, giant clams on the beach, wildlife and even more activities that I won't list here because we need you to click here and find out for yourself, of course. But, there's literally everything to do in San Quintín.

You can find out more about San Quintin and how to get here, at the Baja Tourism Ministry's website.
