A Mexican Consulate has been in operation in Las Vegas, Nevada since 2002, due to the large flow of tourists that the region receives each year, and also because of the amount of Mexican residents who live there as well.
In an exclusive interview with SanDiegoRed, Mariano Lemus Gas who serves as the head Consul of Mexico in Las Vegas spoke about the services they offer, and the implementation of digital passports which makes them the first ones to use this new method.

Today Las Vegas has about 400,000 residents that are Mexicans, and out of the 40 million people who visit the city, about half a million of them are from Mexico.
Lemus explained that even on the weekends they offer assistance to Mexican nationals who are in need of help to solve urgent problems or situations such as lost or stolen passports, provide support in emergency situations where a person needs to be hospitalized, because tourists rarely anticipate ever acquiring any type of travelers medical insurance, and also directing someone where to go for legal advice if need it.

Regarding the issue of digital passports the Consul said that the Consulate had been selected as the location for a pilot program, and that in about 10 days this type of passport will be in use in other Mexican consulates in the U.S., and soon in the rest of the world.
