San Ysidro.- La Prensa San Diego had an interview with filmmaker Charlie Minn, who talked about his latest work, where he commemorates the victims of San Ysidro McDonald massacre of 1984, where 21 persons died and 19 were injured.
Minn has directed other documentaries, such as "Es el Chapo?", "The New Juarez" and "43", which speaks about the 43 missing students in Mexico. Charlie also explained that his new documentary, "77 minutes", would be released this year, and it will tell the stories of this tragic event, which will turn 32 years today.
He also points out that the authors of these kind of attacks always get most of the attention, when it should be the other way round and get closer to the victims testimonies. In this documentary he will expose what happened inside this fast food restaurant by letting the victims tell their stories.
"There were scenes inside that restaurant that nobody knows, like the one where 5 heroes used their body as a shield to prevent others from harm. There is also this guy who got shot 5 times, and even so, he survived; because of this he became a police officer of Chula Vista. I think these are the stories that everyone should know, not only about the aggressor. Unfortunately they know nothing about the victims."
This film is called "77 minutes" because it was the time that took the police to finally take down the murderer. The name of this individual would not be in the documentary because it is a way of glorifying killers, "the victims are the heroes, but we know very little about them", said Minn.
This film will be released on September 23 of this year in the Mission Valley theaters (Hazard Center) in San Diego.
